  27. WHAT IS A VIRUS DEFINITION FILE?
  28.  
  29. Virus Definition files contain up-to-date virus
  30. signatures and other information that Network
  31. Associates anti-virus products use to protect your
  32. computer against the thousands of computer viruses
  33. in circulation. New virus definition files are
  34. released each month to provide protection against
  35. the many new viruses that appear each month. To
  36. ensure that you are protected against the latest
  37. virus threats, download and install the latest 
  38. virus definition file each month.

  155. * INSTALLING YOUR NEW VIRUSDEF FILE *
  156.    
  157. Virus definition file updates are stored in a
  158. compressed format to reduce transmission time. To
  159. install your update, create a temporary folder,
  160. then copy the file you downloaded to that folder.
  161. Next, unstuff the file with Aladdin Systems╒ 
  162. Stuffit Expander, then double-click the VirusDef
  163. Installer file. The installer will copy the file
  164. to the appropriate folder in your System folder.

  168. The installer places a new virus definition file in
  169. this location:

  175. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  177. Macro viruses are named using this standard:
  178.  
  179. The first of a family is given "name.A". For each
  180. subsequently discovered variant, the suffix letters
  181. progress until they reach .Z. The next variant 
  182. receives the suffix .AA; naming continues in this
  183. fashion until it reaches .AZ, at which point the
  184. name shifts to .BA, etc. and continues until .ZZ.
  185. If further variants appear, their names would
  186. end with the sequence .AAA.
  187.  
  188. A reference to a macro virus name without a
  189. variant notation means all variants of that virus.
